History of the castle - The Black Prince - The restoration
From 1120 to nowadays

The oldest part of the castle is without any doubt the dungeon, built in 1120 by the lords of Arcizans to protect their lands.

During the war of 100 years, it was occupied by the english who invaded Aquitain, led by Edward of Woodstock, the Black Prince.

After their victory at Crécy, they headed for Poitiers, Limoges, Tarbes and Lourdes. They spread over that part of the Pyrenees.

You can guess that this dungeon was for them a precious point of observation at the crossing of three valleys.

Christmas 1972, the castle is inhabited again
In 1968, André Doyen buys the ruins of the castle from a peasant of the village. By Christmas 1972, after three years of work, and many centuries of waiting, the castle is once again inhabited.

For 20 years it will be open to visits, and now finally shelters three guest rooms.

The hillock of the castle was classified by the French National Survey in 1944.
